Meet your crew: Hannes and Kristen

Originally from the small lake town of Hartebeesport,  South Africa;  Hannes (Han-es)  grew up sailing Hobie Cats, fishing and waterskiing. Later, his love of the water broadened to a love of the ocean, nature and wildlife.  Once he finished school he left Africa and went on to explore Asia, South America, Europe, and various other parts of the world including the Caribbean and Mediteranean Seas.  It was during this time that Hannes fell in love with scuba diving, gaining vast underwater experience in some of the worlds most exotic dive locations.  After 7 years in business his  love of the water and the call of the ocean proved too strong to resist any longer. Hannes left the business and found himself sailing in the South Atlantic Yacht Race, Cape to Rio race and many other long distance races that took him all over the world.  He has spent time delivering yachts across oceans and working on charter yachts.  Hannes is a RYA Yacht Master Ocean Certified Captain and a Certified PADI Dive Instructor.

Kristen grew up in Colorado, hiking, camping and skiing and will tell you that her love of the outdoors was set in stone at birth.  Visiting Hawaii every year as a child led to her love of the water.  She was a certified Open Water Diver by the age of 14.  Kristen is no stranger to the galley.  She has always loved cooking and has worked in or around professional kitchens since she was 16.  In fact, after finishing college and Colorado State U., she worked with celebrity chef Tyler Florence in the Bay Area of California where she helped him open three  restaurants and two stores.  Working closely with the chefs as well as the Sommelier’, she gained a very firm grasp of what it takes to make an amazing meal with top notch service!
