Meet the Elixir Catamaran crew: Captain Chris & First Mate/Chef Katy
Chris grew up in Florida on the gulf coast, boating since he was a young teenager, and enjoying a large variety of water sports. He learned all he could from his father and grandfather who were chief engineers in the coast guard, and at one point he joined the family business in marine fueling operations. Chris attended college in Saint Petersburg earning his degree in hospitality. He then moved to New York City in order to pursue that career, but eventually heard his name being called back to the sea. After trying to split his time between the two, and earning his captains license along the way, he eventually ended up steering back into boating completely and became a captain on a 40 foot Hinckley. He was spending his summers in New England and winters in Florida running charters to the small nearby islands, including North Captiva where he met Katy.
Katy had a variety of jobs and was very quickly learning about the island life. Apart from enjoying the beach and becoming certified as a turtle monitor, Katy was doing property management, nannying, housekeeping, and using her inspiration to create artwork that she was able to make into a small business. Katy grew up in a small town in Indiana, starting her college career off in Veterinary Technology, and then changing her major to Early Childhood Education. She worked as a lead preschool teacher and loved spending time with the little ones. She is always excited to have kids aboard making the time with them extra special doing arts and crafts, science experiments, playing music, dancing, and all outdoor or water activities.
Soon after Chris met Katy on the island they realized how many interests they shared including traveling, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, yoga, cooking and especially their love for boating. Not long after, he invited her to come aboard a 78 foot motor yacht with him in New York, where she expanded her skills in housekeeping and the culinary arts as the chief stewardess.
Together Chris and Katy have been traveling, and taking in all the experiences they can. They love trying new health foods and learning the different methods of preparing meals. Chris even got the chance to visit Europe where he tasted great foods, sampled delicious wines, and was given the amazing opportunity of being the Captain of a vessel in the Adriatic Sea sailing from Croatia to Italy.
Guests aboard Elixir will enjoy Chris and Katy's energy and their spirit of taking in life and all the wonderful things that it brings, never having a dull moment, and appreciating the boating life they have both come to love.
