Meet your Elysium Catamaran crew: David and Thryn Peterson
The most important aspect of your charter is the crew! Your crew should be fun, professional, accommodating, and have a wealth of knowledge about the islands. David and Thryn fit this description to a “T”!
David and Thryn worked together on three term charter yachts and several day charter boats before they became partners in Elysium. A career in chartering was a natural choice for two people who love to entertain. In the years that they have lived in the islands they have explored its bays and cays extensively. Whether guests want to see secluded beaches, explore vivid reefs, enjoy events for kids, or play at lively island bars, David and Thryn can create a charter that is perfectly tailored to their desires. David and Thryn met at a dive shop in Hawaii five years ago and life has been an adventure ever since! They decided to move to Alaska and drove the ALCAN highway in a veggie oil camper that David built. Later they sailed throughout the Caribbean island chain on their own sailboat. Most recently they spent their late summer charter break riding across the US via motorcycle, stopping at national parks and campgrounds along the way. Of all the places they have been, Dave and Thryn admit that no place captivates them as completely as the Virgin Islands.
David has been connected to the ocean his entire life. Growing up in Oregon gave him many opportunities for playing on the water. His family owned a small boat that he drove from a young age. While in Hawaii his life-long hobby became career when he took a job as a captain and dive master for a night dive excursion with giant manta rays! David has taken the helm of fishing boats in Alaska, as well as a research vessel there, and delivered boats across oceans before becoming a charter captain in the Caribbean.
Thryn has been a professional cook for the past 10 years. She began her career in an ethically minded bakery that sourced all of its ingredients from within 30 miles of its location in Athens, Ohio. This bakery & café made everything from scratch: from bread to cheese to ketchup. Thryn remains passionate about the farm-to-table movement and is proud to source most of her fruits and vegetables from the Ridge to Reef Farm in St. Croix. In addition to her years of experience in professional kitchens she has also attended courses at Le Cordon Bleu, the Portland Culinary Institute, seminars on wine pairings, and had less formal training on the Mediterranean cuisine in Greece. Thryn enjoys the challenge of creating menus according to each group’s preferences.

Seared Fish of the Day with Coconut Risotto ~ Filets of fresh local fish seared with a lemon pepper seasoning over a coconut truffle risotto and side of steamed broccoli
